The grand Andrássy Avenue stands proudly as one of the most iconic boulevards in Budapest. Its beauty and historical significance recognized by UNESCO when it was declared a World Heritage Site in 2002.
Running parallel to Váci Street, this extensive avenue connects Elizabeth Square with Heroes’ Square and ends at the City Park, a beloved green space in the bustling city. Established in 1872, the avenue is lined with an impressive array of Neo-Renaissance mansions and palaces, designed by renowned architects.
Today, Andrássy Avenue exudes a sense of chic luxury, with world-famous designers such as Armani, Dior, Dolce&Gabanna and Louis Vuitton gracing its streets with exclusive boutiques. As you stroll along, taking in the stunning architecture and upscale atmosphere, don’t forget to indulge in a meal or coffee break at one of the fashionable restaurants or cafes.
Amongst all this glamour lies one of Budapest’s most notable landmarks – the Hungarian State Opera House. This magnificent building offers guided tours that are not to be missed.
Embarking on an Andrássy Avenue Adventure
To fully experience Andrássy Avenue, we recommend starting your journey at Erzsébet Square (Elizabeth Square) and making your way towards the striking Heroes’ Square, adorned with iconic statues of Hungary’s national leaders. The closest subway stop is Bajcsy- Zsilinszky on line M1.
Alternatively, if you prefer to begin at Heroes’ Square and work your way back to Elizabeth Square, you can take the M1 line to Hősök tere station instead. Whichever route you choose, prepare to be enchanted by the splendor of Andrássy Avenue.
